Cleanup Days, or a container?
Walker's Cleanup Days run the first weekend of May at the public works yard behind City Hall, signed from Remembrance Rd NW, with proof of address and a small fee per visit. They take a wide mix: brush, scrap metal, mattresses, old doors and windows, furniture, pavers, stone and brick, and untreated lumber, decking and fencing.
If your project lines up with that weekend and fits in a few trailer loads, use it. If it doesn't, or there is more than a trailer can carry, a roll-off saves the hauling.
A Walker project: taking down an old deck
Old decks are a common reason to rent here. Untreated framing and boards are bulky but not especially heavy, so a 15 or 20 yard box usually holds a deck and its railings. Pressure-treated lumber is worth mentioning on the call, since some disposal sites handle it separately.
Pull the screws or cut the boards into lengths that lie flat, and keep the concrete footings for a separate, smaller load if you are removing those too.

Kept out of Walker's drop-off and the dumpster alike
- Household chemicals, oil-based paints, solvents and aerosols: Kent County SafeChem.
- TVs and computer monitors: a county electronics drop-off.
- Lithium and cadmium batteries: SafeChem.
