Yard waste and landscaping dumpsters

Clearing an overgrown fence line, pulling out old shrubs or redoing a whole bed creates more brush than paper bags can handle. A roll-off lets you clear it in one push.

For smaller amounts, use the city

Grand Rapids collects yard waste at the curb on your trash day from the first full week of April to the second Friday in December, in city paper bags of up to 30 pounds or in bundles no longer than 4 feet and no thicker than 2 inches. The city also runs a drop-off site at 2001 Butterworth SW for city households, with ID, for loose or paper-bagged leaves, brush and branches.

A container starts to make sense when the brush is too thick to bundle, when there are stumps, sod or landscape timbers, or when you want it gone in one weekend instead of over a dozen trash days.

Sizes and soil

Brush is bulky and light, so a 15 or 20 yard box is common. Sod, dirt and rock are another matter: they are heavy and belong in a small container on their own, covered on the concrete and dirt page.

Cut long limbs so they lie flat. Branches poking above the walls have to be trimmed before pickup.

Ready to book a roll-off?

Have the address, the project and a rough idea of how much is going in. The company on the phone quotes the size, the drop-off date and the price.
